GPs and other clinicians in Bath and North East Somerset will be responsible for the planning and purchasing (commissioning) of health and care services from April 2013.
Aligning clinicians more closely to patient pathways, care and treatment is aimed at improving services and making the health system more user-friendly.
In Bath and North East Somerset a clinical commissioning group (CCG), the governing body which will commission services once the primary care trust is abolished, has been established in shadow form and is continuing to make good progress as it prepares to take on full commissioning responsibilities.
