...helping people who need support in changing to a healthier lifestyle
Health Trainers are local people who understand the challenges people face when trying to make healthier lifestyle choices. They can offer support, information and guidance to people who want to make changes such as eating more healthily, becoming more physically active, reducing stress, giving up smoking or cutting down on alcohol.
The service is free, confidential and available to anyone over the age of 16. Health Trainers work one-to-one with clients, usually over six sessions, which can be held in the local community, or in the client's home.
Health Trainers are fully trained in encouraging people to make healthier changes, and they will take time to listen to client's, and can help motivate and encourage them to make a lifestyle change. Together, the Health Trainer and the client will agree on a number of health goals and how best to achieve them.
Health Trainers have an excellent knowledge of the community in which they work, and so they can signpost to services or activities that a client may find helpful, or refer a client on to another NHS service, which would compliment the client's health goal, such as the Community Activator or a Stop Smoking Advisor.
