Current best practice recommends early booking.  Once you know you are pregnant you may contact a midwife to arrange your booking appointment.

You can expect to have completed your booking appointment before you are 12 weeks and 6 days pregnant and can expect to be offered screening, including a dating scan between 10 and 13 weeks of pregnancy.

At your booking appointment you are likely to be asked to make an initial decision on where you intend to have your baby, however this can change during your pregnancy.  Your midwife will be able to give you information on what will be available to you in each birth setting.
